The Careers NOW Program offers students a combination of practical work experience and formal training. Students will be required to participate in mandatory briefings, tours and other government activities. Students will also complete written work assignments and group projects. Students may be assigned to work in several areas and most will work a regular schedule of 8:00a.m. to 4:30p.m., Monday through Friday, up to 37.5 hours per week. However, appointments in certain departments may require part-time work with varying hours. All variations of the work schedule must be resolved by the Program Coordinator, student, and participating department prior to the start of the program. The spring program will consist of a 10-12 week working period, while the summer program consists of a 12-14 week working period.
If allowed by the participating college/university, the students will earn college credit and receive $10.68 hourly to be paid semi-monthly for their out-of-pocket living expenses. All payments are treated as taxable income and are subject to all applicable taxes. Also, the first two weeks of pay will be withheld until the end of the internship.
