Division
of Claims Administration - Nashville, TN |
The
Division of Claims Administration contains two sections - Tort Claims
and Criminal Injury Compensation. The student would work in both of
the sections as assigned. |
- Tort Claims
- claims made against the state when someone has sustained damages
as a result of the state's negligence. The student would be used
to assist in the investigation of claims made against the state.
This includes contacting witnesses by phone, reviewing responses
from state officials, identifying discrepancies or the need for
additional information or clarification, and requesting supporting
documentation. Contact may be with claimants, attorneys, physicians
and employees of state government.
- Criminal
Injury Compensation - program to assist innocent crime victims
in Tennessee who sustain injury or death. Funds from the program
may pay expenses such as medical bills, lost wages, funeral bills,
etc. The student would be used to assist in the investigation
of claims for benefits under this program. Investigative contact
may include written or oral communication with victims or their
families, attorneys, and medical/funeral providers.

Division
of Internal Audit - Nashville, TN |
The
internal audit function is a continuous independent management control
and appraisal activity established within the agency to review administrative,
fiscal and program operations to determine for management that (1)
assets are safeguarded and their use properly accounted for, (2) adequate
managerial and accounting controls exist and function properly, (3)
recommendations are made for appropriate improvements in controls
and operations, and (4) management plans, policies and procedures
are carried out and executed effectively and efficiently.Internal

- Review transactions
and systems to determine if executed in compliance with management's
authorization and are recorded properly. We evaluate procedures
of all areas of the Treasury Department to determine if appropriate
separation of duties and other internal controls are in place
and functioning as intended.
- Internal
Audit provides exposure to financial transactions processed through
a variety of media. Computers are used extensively. The student
may review reconciliations prepared by others for the purpose
of opining on the propriety of the reconciliation.
- Interact
with other auditors and auditees to prepare audit work papers
to document the audit test work completed. Statistical sampling
is used when appropriate.
- Review transactions
for compliance with policies, procedures, statute, contract terms
and conditions or other criteria. Work paper technique standards
guide the preparation of consistent documentation of work with
appropriate referencing and presentation of results. We follow
the standards promulgated by the Institute of Internal Audit and
the Government Auditing Standards promulgated by the General Accounting
Office (GAO).
- Review internally
prepared financial statements for presentation and accuracy to
assist other divisions.

Proficient using
PC spreadsheet and word processing applications in addition to a
ten key adding machine. Completion of a course in intermediate accounting
and at least one other upper division accounting course. Strong
communication skills are needed to present technical results of
work performed.

Information Systems Division, Nashville TN Provides hardware and software support services to Treasury Department users to ensure efficient delivery of services. |
- Systems Analyst
- Web content administration - configure web-based application modules and update content on department Internet and Intranet sites.
- Data analysis and reporting - Develop and lay out reports per business specifications utilizing Business Objects (Crystal Reports), write and refine basic SQL statements to extract report data.

The
Counseling Section of the Retirement Division coordinates pre-retirement
seminars for members of the TCRS. |
- Plan pre-retirement
education seminars. This includes making arrangements for the
speakers, facilities, and refreshments.
- Moderate
and facilitate the programs as set up. Coordinate the agenda,
secure speakers for various topics, and confirm participation
of speakers.
- Present the
TCRS portion of the seminars to groups. Coordinate and assemble
the packet of information for distribution and maintain records
and statistics of seminars.
- Other duties
as assigned by supervisor or pre-retirement planning personnel
and manager of counseling services.
