Our primary goal is to return your property back to you. In doing so we use several methods to try and locate you. If you are ever concerned about the validity of something you have received please feel free to contact our office. In the tabs below are some of the most common methods we use:
- Mailing to Your Home
- Mailing to Your Work
- Other Outreach Methods
Once we receive your property from the company or entity we post it on our website for you to find. Our website allows you to search for your abandoned property and print off a claim form that lists the required documentation you will need to mail to this office. Click here to go to our searchable website.
We will mail a claim form to the last known address that the company or entity has given us. Although we require the company or entity to try and contact you at this address prior to sending your property to us for various reasons we still are able to locate owners with this method. If you receive one of these claim forms please complete the form and return it to us with the required documentation.
In an effort to return your property we will also send a claim form to your place of employment. We are able to accomplish this if the company or entity that turned over your property to us provided us with your SSN. We will match up your SSN with the Department of Labor and Workforce Development’s records to determine where you are working in Tennessee. We will then mail a claim form to your employer and request that they pass it to you. If you receive one of these claim forms please complete the form and return it to us with the required documentation.
Once a year we will list the names of the owners in the newspaper. We will list the name in the local paper based on the last known address that the company or entity that turned over your property provided to us. If you see your name in the paper or if someone else informed you they seen your name in the paper either; complete the claim form in the paper, or go to our website to search your name and print off a claim form. Return the claim form to our office with the required documentation.
In addition to the other mentioned items we utilize various tools to help us locate and return your property. Some examples include; searches on the internet, use of other free and paid databases, and sharing our list of property with legislators within Tennessee. We perform all these methods in order to reunite with your property.
