Robert B. Turner was born in 1803 in Nashville, Tennessee. He was the son of James Turner and Martha A. Hubble Turner. On August 9, 1827, Treasurer Turner married Sophronia L. Boyd from Nashville, Tennessee. The couple had eight children, named Kate, Augustus Medicus, Maurine, Thomas James, Charles Carrol, Rachel, Caroline “Carrie” McGavock, and Roberta Mary Turner.
In 1845, Treasurer Turner was appointed as the 3rd State Treasurer of Tennessee. He served during the administration of Governor Aaron Venable Brown. Robert served as State Treasurer from 1845 to 1847.
On June 7, 1848, Treasurer Turner died at his residence in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 45. According to his obituary from the Republican Banner newspaper, Robert died as a result of inflammation of the stomach. He was buried in the Nashville City Cemetery.
