Retire Ready Tennessee

For Retirees

Congratulations on your milestone of retirement from Tennessee public service—here, you'll find the resources to maximize your retirement management.

Notification of data security breach

TCRS wants to alert retirees and their beneficiaries that their personal information may have been included in a data security breach experienced by MOVEit Transfer, a file transfer software utilized by Pension Benefits Information (PBI), a vendor that TCRS contracts for services. Files that contain personal information, including name, social security number, date of birth, and address may have been accessed by unauthorized third parties as part of this breach.

Communications will be sent directly to retirees and beneficiaries whose information may have been included in this data security breach. PBI will start sending letters directly to impacted members beginning July 28 with information on how to use 12 months of credit monitoring and identity restoration services provided by Kroll. TCRS originally communicated these letters would be received no later than July 15 based on initial estimates provided by PBI. However, due to the volume of organizations for which Kroll will be providing credit monitoring and identity restoration services, the date has been revised. We apologize for any confusion and encourage all impacted members to take advantage of this resource.

**8/1 UPDATE - Letters are being mailed by PBI this week. They will arrive by U.S. Mail.

In the meantime, the Federal Trade Commission offers consumer advice for data breaches and identify theft, that you may access below.

Retirees to receive 3% COLA beginning July 2023

Retired teachers and state employees who have been on the TCRS retired payroll for at least 12 consecutive months as of July 1, 2023 will receive a 3% cost-of-living adjustment, the highest increase available under laws governing TCRS. Retirees of local governments that have authorized COLAs will receive the same increase.

Temporary employment

Temporary employment allows TCRS retirees to work 120 days, or 18 semester hours in higher education, within a 12 month period, as long as the individual does not exceed certain salary restrictions.

To get started, simply complete and return the appropriate form below to TCRS prior to the start of your employment.

Unless you are retired on disability, you can always return to work for a private employer without restrictions.

Contributions to your 401(k) and/or 457 plan

A retiree returning to work for 120 days or less may elect to contribute to the 401(k) and/or 457 plan, but will not receive any matching contributions from the state. If a 120-day employee desires to contribute, he or she should call RetireReadyTN at (800) 922-7772.
