With Nearly $1 Billion in Unclaimed Property, the Tennessee Department of Treasury will Travel to Reunite Tennesseans with Missing Money at Events across the State

The Tennessee Department of Treasury’s Unclaimed Property Division is traveling to events across the state to reunite Tennesseans with missing money.

Nashville, TN — The Tennessee Department of Treasury’s Unclaimed Property Division is traveling to events across the state to reunite Tennesseans with missing money. The Division returned a record-breaking 48,425 claims last year, returning $32.9 million to those with missing money in Tennessee.

In an effort to return missing money to even more Tennesseans this year, representatives from Treasury’s Unclaimed Property Division will be visiting some new events across the state this year and will be returning to several successful events from previous years.

Tennesseans are encouraged to stop by the Unclaimed Property booth to find out if they have missing money. Division representatives will be on-site to help attendees begin the claims process and answer any questions attendees may have. This is the third year the Division has met with Tennesseans at these events and thousands of dollars have been returned to people who stopped by the Unclaimed Property booth to search for their name! Currently, the largest amount found by an individual at one of these events is $13,466.04.

“With nearly $1 billion in unclaimed property in Tennessee, the need to connect with local communities is greater than ever. These events have been an excellent way to help increase awareness for this program,” said State Treasurer David H. Lillard, Jr.

The first two events are the Southern Women’s Show in Memphis this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, March 1-3, and the Southern Women’s Show in Nashville the following week, Thursday through Sunday, March 7-10. About the Tennessee Treasury Unclaimed Property Division

Unclaimed property is money that has been turned over to the State by businesses and organizations who cannot locate the rightful owners. Every year, millions of missing dollars are turned over, and the Tennessee Treasury Department works to get that money back to whom it belongs. In Tennessee, there is currently $994 million in unclaimed property still waiting to be returned.

To search for missing money, go to the Unclaimed Property’s website: ClaimItTN.gov. This searchable online database contains all unclaimed property in Tennessee dating to the beginning of the program. You can visit www.ClaimItTN.gov to search for your name, and can file your claim online. Treasury recommends searching for common misspellings of your name and addresses as well.

There is no time limit in Tennessee to claim unclaimed property. It is held for the rightful owner or their legal beneficiaries until it is claimed.
